A Landslide in southeast alaska has resulted 3 dead’s & 3 missing individuals,the landslide occurs during rain & windstrom near the community of wrangell.
Alaska State Troopers said the highway crossed about 9 p.m. Monday near Wrangell, an island remote fishing community about 155 miles south of Juneau. Aerial images show a blob about 450 feet wide.
A drone operator recovered the bodies of two adults Tuesday night, according to a report from the Alaska State Troopers. A girl’s body was found shortly after the slide on Monday.
Two children and another adult are missing. One person rescued from the upper floor of a stricken house, a woman, was injured
In addition to heat-sensing drones, crews were using cadaver-sniffing dogs to search for debris. The US Coast Guard was monitoring debris-covered coastlines and beaches.

It was not immediately known what caused the landslide. The storm caused 3 inches of rain in the area on Monday. Nearby Ketchikan, known for its wet climate, has so far received at least a drop of rain per day

Initial surveys showed that three houses were in the direct path of the slide and first rescuers began a quick search for survivors.
He said that a dead body was found during a hasty search. Several people are believed to have been in the slide area at the time of the landslide and are believed to be missing.
The area was at risk of additional landslides and nearby residents were advised to evacuate. Water taxis were brought in to help transport people around the blocked highway.

“A state geologist will need to come evaluate the site to make sure conditions are safe before proceeding with full-scale efforts,” the post said.
