Introduction
Tornadoes have torn through Tennessee recently, killing six people and hospitalising more than sixty others. Tornadoes struck Nashville and Clarksville on Saturday evening; damaging and leaving the people shaken. More accounts coming from the Montgomery County in which Clarksville is situated described the tragic deaths of two adults and a child. Besides, 23 people, who sustained severe injuries in Clarksville, were transported to the hospital Another three people died in the North side of Nashville on Nesbitt Lane. The impact was devastating with low-lying areas flooding, Nashville Office of Emergency Management requesting the population to evacuate areas that were flooded while urging residents to avoid water filled areas due to risks such as live electrical wires.
It was not only a loss of lives because in a church, thirteen people were injured when the structure fell during the occurrence of the disaster showing that everyone is vulnerable when this natural calamity happens. Fortunately these victims were immediately stabilized after receiving medical attention.
Being alerted by National Weather Service radar, the authorities received a warning and saw that there was heading towards Nashville “a large and extremely dangerous tornado.” Since the situation is very sensitive and alarming, everyone in the vicinity has to be protected and take precautions, need to advance their safety for them.
Democrats proved to be as efficient as their Republican counterparts and Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell immediately called a state of emergency in order to underline the critical situation which people were faced and as a result, asked people to stay away from locations which received heavy damage. On the other hand, the authorized person in the city of Clarksville, Mayor Joe Pitts, set the curfew understanding the fact that the health and safety of the community has to be ensured in the middle of the crisis.
Other neighboring counties including the Weakley Count and the Gibson County also suffered the impact of the tornado upon reports of the event. They were left stuck in their homes with some of them destroyed and power cables brought down throughout neighborhoods showing how far reaching the calamity was.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee says he is with the people and stands for the Tennesseans who were hit by the tornado and reiterates prayers for those who are in hard times. This came to light as over 50000 customers lost power thereby experiencing blackouts mainly within the Middle Tennesse region.
The National Weather Service confirmed at least one tornado in Clarksville, showing harrowing images of collapsed buildings and trees uprooted from wet ground. Although official confirmation of other tornado sightings is awaited, the death toll on communities is clear, with widespread damage and destruction in the affected areas.
