Subrata Roy was the head of Sahara India Group. Subrata Roy joined Sahara Finance in 1976 and later took over the reins of the company. He was accused of committing a scam of Rs 25 thousand crores.

While sharing a titular teaser, Hansal Mehta wrote, ‘Sc3m is back! Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga, coming soon on Sony Liv. Interestingly, Hansal Mehta himself is going to direct this season.

In 2014, Subrata Roy was put in jail for not paying the dues of Rs 10,000 crore. He remained in jail for more than two years and came out on parole in 2016. However, after this he had to go to jail again, because the regulatory body SEBI had demanded from the Supreme Court to cancel the parole. Last year in November 2023, Subrata Roy died at the age of 75 due to cardiorespiratory arrest.

The empire of Subrata Roy’s Sahara Group can be gauged from the fact that in the year 2004, ‘Time Magazine described him as the largest employer after Indian Railways. The business of Subrata Roy, who was close to former UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, touched the sky in the 1990s. It was so much so that when he got his son married in 2004, even people like Amitabh Bachchan were included in the wedding procession.
Subrata Roy, born on 10 June 1948 in Araria district of Bihar, studied mechanical engineering from the Government Engineering College, Gorakhpur. In the year 1978, he started his business in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh with just Rs 2,000.
