Delhi Police identified the deceased as Hiralal Sharma (46) and his four daughters — Neetu (26), Nikki (24), Neeru (22) and Nidhi (20). Hiralal was a carpenter by profession. Two of his four daughters are exceptionally gifted. It is being investigated whether Hiralal could have caused such an incident due to financial distress. No injuries were found on the body of any of the deceased. Three poison packets, five glasses and a suspicious liquid were recovered from Hiralal’s flat.
The police said that Hiralal’s four daughters had red thread tied around their stomachs and necks. It is believed that there may be a religious reason behind it. Hiralal lived on rent in that flat. None of them have been seen in the past few days. On Friday morning, the owner of the flat called the police because of the stench. After that, five bodies were recovered by breaking the door.
Incidentally, in 2018, 11 members of a family committed suicide in Delhi’s Burari due to their religious beliefs. In 2022, a man committed suicide by killing his wife and four children in Ambala, Haryana. This kind of mysterious death in Delhi happened back to back.
When the stench started coming from Hiralal’s flat on Friday, the locals informed the police.
On Friday afternoon, the dead bodies were removed by breaking the lock of the flat. When the police broke the door in the presence of the landlord and other people, five bodies were lying there. The bodies were removed and sent for postmortem.
