A Russian student opened fire on several classmates at a school in the Ukrainian border city of Bryansk on Thursday. Russian state news agencies and authorities confirmed that one person was killed and five others were wounded before the attacker committed suicide.

One of the injured was seriously injured, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported. According to a classmate to RIA Novosti, the girl hid the gun in a tube designed to hold papers and brought it to school. Describing the incident, the classmate noted that when the shooting began, two girls, one of whom was the gunman’s 14-year-old twin sister, rushed into their classroom.

The Russian Investigative Committee said preliminary investigations revealed the armed young woman fired a pump-action shotgun at her classmates. RIA Novosti shared footage showing children covering classrooms using desks and chairs to barricade a door.

The gunman’s father was brought in for questioning as a witness, RIA Novosti reported. Investigators wanted to investigate how her daughter got the firearm, Telegram channel Shot reported.

Also, the principal of the school was questioned as to how the girl was able to bring the weapon into the school premises. Authorities have also sought information from the principal about the school’s security measures, state news agency Tass said.
