When the water came down, it showed a pile of garbage
Actually, due to the wood getting stuck under stream number 21 of the barrage and getting filled with silt, the Kosi water rose up on the road of the barrage along with Hillcore. Till late at night, it was accumulating water. The government of Nepal has banned the operation of vehicles on the Kosi barrage. Know special things about Kosi River…
Professor Sunil Singh of Tilkamanji Bhagalpur University, an expert on river affairs, says that the character of Kosi is very different from other rivers. Other rivers in the load at times of excessive discharge where there is mud and sand. Kosi’s load is silt. Because, compared to other rivers, it enters the plains near Chatra in Nepal very fast, and after its 72 km journey, its load cannot settle in the Indian border. This is the reason that this silt reduces the capacity of Kosi barrage and also damages its gate.
There is a long process of turning silt into sand and then turning sand into clay. That’s why this river was considered cursed. Because whenever this silt flooded the fertile areas with Kosi floods, the land became barren. Due to this silt, the capacity of the dams built on the barrage is gradually decreasing. While dredging is often done.
On Sunday, the water level on the Kosi barrage decreased
The amount of water released from the Kosi barrage till Saturday night woke up the people of many districts. The people of the area adjacent to Kosi kept watch. There was only one thing on everyone’s lips: that this night would end somehow. Actually, people were afraid about the rains in Nepal, due to which the water level in Kosi was increasing rapidly.
At the same time, if the rain stopped in Nepal, it also showed its effect. Till 5 am on Sunday, 6 lakh 61 thousand 295 cusecs of water were recorded in increasing order, but in the 7 o’clock report, the water was recorded in decreasing order. 6 lakh 43 thousand 675 discharges of Kosi barrage were recorded at 7 am. While at 9 am, 6 lakh 28 thousand 145 cusecs of water was recorded in descending order.
Now the challenge of erosion is in front
The water has receded on Kosi Berar, but the crisis is not over yet. The challenge of erosion increases with decreasing water. Now the challenge of keeping the embankments safe is up to the administration. People are also constantly taking news of embankments. On Saturday night, where there was a complaint of leakage, it was repaired immediately. Here, the evacuation has started from the areas where Kosi water has entered. People are now fleeing to safer places. The administration has been continuously appealing that people from the area inside the embankment should move to a safer place.
