International Widows Day History

This month marks the first anniversary of International Widows Day which was created by the Lumba Foundation in 2005. The choice of 23rd June for this day is significant as it was the date when the founder’s mother, Smt. Pushpa Wati Lumba was widowed in 1954. By choosing the same date, the foundation aimed to raise awareness about the plight of widows worldwide. Experience poverty and hardship.

Today, it helps to draw awareness to the prejudice that so many women experience as well as the economic hardships they endure after the death of their spouses. But a joint five-year international pressure led by The Loomba Foundation put pressure on the United Nations General Assembly to form the policy.
