Railways has already sent a rescue team to the accident spot. Rescue work has started in wartime operations. It is not yet clear how the accident happened. However, a railway official said that a freight train was also belined near the place where the Mumbai-bound train met with an accident. However, it is not yet known if there is any connection between these two accidents. Railways have started an investigation to find out the cause of the accident.

After the news of the accident came to light, Mamata made a post on her X handle. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased besides expressing his grief over the incident.

However, at the beginning of the post, he applauded the Modi government at the Centre. Mamata writes, “I want to ask, is this a model of government?” It was followed by the Chief Minister’s addition referring to the series of train accidents, “This continuation of nightmares every week, this death march on the railway lines—how much longer will we endure? On the line on which the express train was running, a freight train allowed to run on the same line came from behind and hit the Kanchenjunga Express. Due to the impact, several rooms of the Kanchenjunga Express fell on the engine of the freight train. Derailment of the goods train. A total of 10 people died, including Kanchenjunga’s guard and the driver of the freight car. About 50 people were injured.
