Sheikh hasina

This has created a stir in the neighboring country Bangladesh. Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is still in a safe house at Hindon Airbase, being questioned about her future strategy in a speculated-coup-in-Europe-within-48-hours.

According to sources former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina may leave India within the next 48 hours. Preparations are underway to ensure his safe exit. Hasina, who arrived in India on Monday evening, is considering a trip to Europe with Finland and Russia among the possible destinations. India is said to be facilitating his safe passage.

Earlier today, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told Parliament that Sheikh Hasina has decided to step down as prime minister after discussions with security officials. After resigning, he sought permission to come to India at short notice. His arrival in Delhi was quickly coordinated with Bangladesh authorities and he landed yesterday evening.

Initially, Hasina was supposed to go to London, but that plan fell through. The UK Home Office says that British immigration rules do not allow people to travel to the UK specifically for asylum or temporary asylum. The UK government insists that asylum seekers should seek protection in the first safe country they reach, meaning Hasina should consider seeking asylum in India. A UK Home Office spokesperson noted that the UK is committed to providing protection to those in need, but must seek asylum in the nearest safe country, as this is the fastest route to protection.
